About The Vermilion YMCA Torpedoes
The Vermilion YMCA Torpedoes is a competitive swimming team for children from age 4 to 19 years of age.
The Principles of YMCA serve as the foundation of the team's approach toward competitive swimming which leads to self-confidence, understanding the value of hard work, the importance of health, self-respect, respect for others, and good sportsmanship.
The Vermilion YMCA Torpedo swim team participates in both YMCA Meets in the North East Ohio YMCA League, as well as USA Swimming Meets in the Lake Erie District.
Join one of the best YMCA swim teams in northeast Ohio – ranked #1 in 2006 and 2007! This competitive program is designed to develop skills necessary to compete within the Northeast Ohio Swim League. Swimmers practice up to four nights weekly and will participate in up to eight meets throughout the season. Meets are held throughout northeast Ohio YMCAs. Parents are encouraged to volunteer at meets and other events throughout the season for team success! Parents may also join the Torpedoes Swim Parent Advisory Group.

HOW A DUAL MEET FOR YMCA WORKS...
There are 10 "Age groups" that Score:
There are 11 categories of points to win:
- 10 and under (which include all 8 and under individual swims) Boys/Girls,
Often times you might hear that we won 7-4 or 8-3... It is possible to tie an age group and in those cases it would score 7.5 - 3.5 or 6.5 - 4.5
In highly competitive and close meets, the only real concern is usually "Total Team points"... Since that is the last point to win its usually the deciding factor... Close meets are always decided by 6-5... with the final point to win (6) always being "Total Team points"...
Individual events Score as:
Relay Events Score as:
All scoring swimmers swim in the first heat of an event... Home teams are in lanes 2,4,6 and visiting team are in 1,3,5
All 8 and under relays do NOT score in our league for dual meets, (but they do score at Divisionals and League championship meets).... 8 and under individual events always score and those points roll up under the 10 and under age group... there is no 8 and under age group to win... it is only 10 and under, even though 8 year old swim and score in separate events like 25 free, 25 back, 50 free, 25 fly and 25 Breast...
The only swimmers that a coach can move up for relays are 8 and under for 10 and under events and relays...
