ZUMBA! At The YMCA
Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements, which create a dynamic, exciting and effective fitness system.

Classes with instructor Mary Hoholski start Monday, April 7, 2008. Eight registered participants are needed to begin classes. Classes are great for ALL beginners and start at 9 AM .
Monday - Cardio Circuit - Class begins with a gentle warm up, Cardio Set, Bands, and another Cardio Set. Then working with Weights and Balls for the final 15 minutes with a gentle cool down.
Wednesday - Step Class - This class is excellent for the beginner.
You may use tape on the floor until you get used to the stepping patterns.

Friday - Low Impact - Class begins with a gentle warm up, and Low Impact routines for 25 minutes. Then working with Weights and Balls for the final 15 minutes with a gentle cool down.

Spring Karate Class
Learn basic karate skills, improve flexibility, and learn discipline with a co-ed karate class designed for ages 5 – 14. Instruction on the development of basic martial arts kicks and punches of Tang Soo Do Karate. Instructor: Master Dennis Pettry Sr. of Pettry’s Martial Arts.

YMCA Spring Dance Class Schedule

12 week session - Next session starts Tuesday April 1st
Fees: Members $96 Nonmembers:$120
- Combo I Ages: 6-7 yr olds. Time: 5-5:45. A combination of jazz tap and ballet. This class offers Proper techniques for both styles.
- Combo II Ages: 8 and up. Time: 5-5:45. Advanced class, Students need to take Combo I or be recommended by instructor for this class.
- NOTE COMBO CLASS STUDENTS: Female students must wear Black leotards, white tights, pink ballet shoes and black patent leather tap shoes. Black skirt or shorts are optional. Hair must be worn in a bun. Male students must wear a white t-shirt, black pants white socks black leather shoes and black patent ballet shoes.
- Pre-Dance/Creative Movement Ages: 3-5 yr. olds. Time: 6-6:45. An introduction class for the first time dancers. This class combines basic tap and ballet, with fun games and music.
- Hip-Hop I Ages:6-7 yr. old. Time: 7-7:45. One of the more popular dance styles around today. This class incorporates street and breakdance moves.
- Hip-Hop II Ages: 8 and up. Time: 7:30-8:15. Advanced class. Students need to take Hip-Hop II or instructor’s recommendation before enrolling in this class.
NOTE: All Hip-Hop students must wear comfortable, baggy pants and shirts, as well as socks and tennis shoes. NO jeans, sandals, or “crocs”. Long hair must be secured in a ponytail.

YMCA Spring Flag Football
Spring season starts the week of March 24th. Teams from Amherst, Vermilion and Firelands High School area will compete against each other. Games will be played on Saturday mornings starting April 5th. League is open to boys and girls ages 5-10 years old. Fees are $40 members and $50 nonmembers.
Vermilion Family YMCA Co-Ed Church Softball
Join churches from the Amherst and Vermilion areas for fun and fellowship in this new softball league!
- 10 week season will start April 5th.
- Double elimination tournament at the end of the season.
- Rosters of 12 players (16 years old and older.)
- Teams must have at least 4 female players.

Friday Night Basketball At The YMCA
Spring leagues now starting! Games will be played on Friday nights at the YMCA.
- Men’s 3 on 3 league (ages 18-30)
- Men’s 30+ league ( ages 30 and up)
- Co-ed 3 on 3 league (ages 18-30)
Teams in each league should have 5-6 players on the rosters. Co-ed teams need at least 2 female players on the rosters. 10 game season starts March 21st, 2008 and will finish with a tournament on May 30th-31st, 2008. Fees are $120 per team. Sign-up deadline is March 14th, 2008. Call the Vermilion YMCA at 967-4208 for more information.
Volunteers Needed For YMCA Concierge Service
Outgoing volunteers needed to act as customer service representatives for the YMCA Concierge Service. Duties include greeting all members and guests of YMCA along with answering questions about the YMCA Memberships and its programs. Volunteers will be responsible for verifying members are active and ensure they sign in and out in the log. Answer phones and relate information to appropriate staff or departments. Must have knowledge and be able to operate equipment such as sending faxes, making copies and other clerical duties when asked by YMCA staff.
The YMCA Concierge Service age requirement is 17 or older. There are four (4) shift times available. Volunteer should be able to work entire shift when scheduled. If calling off from shift, you must find own substitute. Volunteers must attend an orientation and any training required by supervisor. Complete times sheets and turn in at the end of your shift. Volunteers are to follow emergency procedures and assist when needed.
The YMCA Concierge Service will provide each volunteer with an adult membership, volunteer t-shirt and badge. Interested persons should contact the YMCA.
Vermilion YMCA Spring 2008 Co-Ed Church Softball League
The Vermilion Family YMCA will be sponsoring a co-ed church softball league for churches in the Vermilion and Amherst area. This will be a 10 week season that starts April 5th, 2008. The last scheduled game will be June 8th.
Team rosters will consist of 12 players at least 16 years old with 4 female players. Team fees are $300/team ($25/player @ $2.50/week for 10 weeks. Fees to pay for field and umpire fees and tournament trophies.)
Team captains need to turn in rosters to the YMCA office by March 29, 2008. Rosters should include players name and contact information. Forms are available in the YMCA’s main office.
There will be a double elimination tournament on June 29, 2008. Participants must be members in good standing of the church for which they are playing for.
There will a mandatory coaches meeting on Thursday, March 27th at 7 pm at the YMCA.

Vermilion Family YMCA Youth Sports Schedule 2008
Spring Flag Football (Ages 5-7, 8-10,11-12) March 24th-May 5th 2008
Flag football allows boys and girls to play organized footfall that teaches the rules, fundamentals, teamwork and the fun of football without the contact of tackle football. Practice is one night a week and games will be played on Saturdays. Tentatively, there will three leagues this year, one at the Vermilion YMCA, one at Firelands High School and one at Amherst Jr. High School. We will be playing teams at all three locations. All players will receive a team jersey and end of season awards.
Fees: Members $40 - Nonmembers $55 - 7 weeks 6 games
Outdoor Soccer (Ages 3-6) May 12th-June 23rd 2008
YMCA Youth Soccer is a program for boys and girls just beginning to play soccer, a chance to learn the game while having fun at the same time. Practices are one night a week. Games are played at the YMCA soccer fields. Each player will receive a team shirt and end of season awards. No games Memorial Day Weekend.
Fees: Members $35 - Nonmembers $50 - 7 weeks 6 games
Minor League Blastball (Ages 3-4) T-Ball (Ages 5-6) July 7th-August 23rd 2008
Blastball is a great way to introduce first time players to T-ball. Teaches players base running, catching, hitting and fielding. Uses an exclusive “honking “ base to keep players in the game.
T-ball is for 5-6 year olds ready to move up and learn the fundamentals of baseball and softball. All players will receive a minor league team jersey and hat and end of season awards.
Fees: Members $40 - Nonmembers $55 - 7 weeks 6 games
Fall Flagfootball (Ages 5-6, 7-8, 9-10) September 8th-October 25th 2008
Same as spring flag football. 7 weeks 6 games.

Indoor Soccer Mini Camps (Ages 3-6) October 27th-December 8th 2008
Mini camps will stress the fundamentals of soccer, foot skills, passing and receiving, defense and teamwork. Camps will meet one night a week by age. Each participant will receive an end of camp award. Week of November 24th off (Thanksgiving.)

The SILVERSNEAKERS Fitness Program
The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is designed exclusively for older adults. Members receive a basic fitness center membership at no cost. This membership would include use of the fitness equipment rooms as well as all SilverSneaker classes and any other aerobic classes offered. The program is offered to Medicare-eligible members of SPONSORING ORGANIZATIONS OR HEALTH PLANS. The health plans that offer the SilverSneakers program at the Vermilion Family YMCA are ANTHEM SENIOR ADVANTAGE, ANTHEM MEDICARE PREFERED, HUMANA MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT PLAN, HUMANA GOLD CHOICE PFFS AND HUMANA CHOICE PPO.
